Realme 10 review: balanced, but doesn’t add much

Here we are with the Realme Fall 2022 collection, it’s over in our pockets realme 10, a representative of the low-mid-range of the Chinese brand. It is a smartphone that is mainly revised in design by adopting more modern and minimal lines compared to the previous generation, but from a technical point of view it adds very little, in fact, it takes a small step back.

Despite this, it still manages to express a good overall performance, as a result of the balanced choices in hardware and improved software as always.

Quality design and manufacture

Realme 10 . design Changes the aesthetic setting of the brand’s latest smartphonesThe edges become completely flat and, in combination with the back cover and the protective glass for the screen, the pattern vaguely recalls the “brick” of the latest iPhones and is reminiscent of Xiaomi 11 Lite with a thickness of only 7.9 mm.

From the front, the edges of the screen are crystal clear, especially the bottom, in the top left there is a hole for the front camera. On the right side is the power button with the fingerprint reader sunk, above the volume button in a very high position. On the left side we find the tray that accommodates two nano SIMs and a micro SD card, at the bottom, in addition to the Type-C port and the speaker grille, there is also a 3.5 mm audio jack.

The back is the most distinguishing feature of the design, and the material is plastic with a special color treatment that brings it together Colorful pink to blue reflections and shimmering pattern. The edges are also made of polycarbonate and the gray color does not help to hide them, which makes it look a bit “cheap”.

The ergonomics are influenced by the generous dimensions (159.9 mm x 73.3 mm x 7.95 mm), in particular the width, but the low weight (179 g) and low thickness help it grip. However, in the package you will find a very good TPU cover with reinforced corners, and in this regard Realme is confirmed among the most virtuous of the company.

The Realme 10 screen is basically the same as that of the Realme 9 (except for the fingerprint reader), a 6.4 inch AMOLED with FullHD + resolution, 90Hz refresh ratePeak luminance reaches 1,000 nits, which isn’t a bad thing given the price range. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and outside the box you will find a film pre-installed, by removing it you can enjoy a very good oil treatment. Automatic brightness adjustment works well, as does the proximity sensor, but the latter is so sensitive, that the screen turns off even when it wasn’t necessary, perhaps simply by holding the smartphone horizontally to play.

In addition to good technical specifications, what makes Show one of the highlights of Realme 10 It is the palette management software: we can choose from several color profiles and manually adjust the white point.

Audio and multimedia

A screen of this size makes the smartphone suitable for using multimedia content or for gaming. The visual quality is always up to the task, while for the audio the level is relatively lower. There is only one speaker, is neither powerful nor particularly balanced on frequencies. It is possible to force the volume to “200%” but the distortions will become too much.

On the other hand, the wireless part is entrusted to the tested Bluetooth 5.1 and the 3.5mm audio jack that can always come in handy.

On board Realme 10 we find a file Realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12 And security patches have been updated until September 2022. Well overall: Realme UI is a powerful customization of Android, which has now been discovered Good mix of customization, advanced features, and ease of use.

This model has an option Practically expand RAM With a “swap” of up to 8GB, that brings the total to 16GB. In terms of performance, you won’t see major changes but you can keep many apps open in the background without closing them automatically. But be careful, as this process can backfire on independence, use it wisely.

Among the most popular are split screen, flexible windows (i.e. floating and resizable windows), and smart sidebar, with shortcuts to apps and features. Hmm then Many gestures with the screen on and offOn the other hand, a true multiuser mode with different profiles for work and entertainment is missing, a function that is instead usually present on Realme’s high-end devices.

The category of flaws definitely includes the unacceptable amount of bloatware at first, every app can be uninstalled but if the user is not savvy, they will have to carry over a dozen useless apps.

user experience

The first aspect that is likely to have aroused the interest of the most attentive SoC, a MediaTek Helio G99 at 6 nm. In fact, we have already met him on the Poco M5 and he did not give us great sensations, here we confirm that it is not such a performing SoC, but on Realme, with the right settings, it can still be very satisfying given the price range.

We were talking about the settings, in the default configuration of performance and refresh rate, the parameters are rather conservative and the impression is a slightly wooden smartphone in your hands. By forcing 90 Hz and High performance mode Instead, the speech changes dramatically: Realme 10 becomes fun and interactive, and is also able to extricate itself without problems with gameplay. Don’t worry too much about the battery, with 5000mAh you’ll get plenty of it and the user experience will be noticeably better.

At the level of user experience, we add that the fingerprint reader is very fast and accurate, easy to find under the fingertips and is slightly recessed in the body, however, it must be borne in mind that due to its position it will not be comfortable for left-handers.

Speaking of haptic feedback, no big news, it’s not very accurate and a little pulled, but at least it has the advantage of hearing incoming calls and notifications.

Phone part and delivery

Realme 10 has excellent signal reception, there are also no problems with 4G + and therefore with bandwidth aggregation. Everything is fine even with WiFi ac, GPS and NFC in which we had no problems at all. The management of two SIM cards is also good, although it is basic in the software part.

What is all this missing? 5G And certainly for a smartphone at the end of 2022, there is no small gap.

Independence and recharge

Realme 10 strong autonomy from Big unit 5000 mAhwhich, together with a SoC trained on 6 nm standards with conservative parameters and a program that takes care of consumption as such, has always been able to guarantee great reliability and safety.

in the middle We were able to cover two full days without any problems, with at least 7 hours of active viewing. better!

In the photographic sector there is already a small step back compared to the previous generation, together with the 50 MP main with the Samsung JN1 sensor, we no longer find an ultrawide camera but only a black and white 2 MP sensor that we could not use to understand the benefit. On the front, on the other hand, it was tested at 16 MP with fixed focus.

The main sensor is often used in mid-range smartphones, therefore it is not a beast but knows how to get into it and allows Realme 10 to reach full sufficiency in most situations.

During the day, the photos are discreet, and there are often few details missing, but in general they are in line with smartphones around 300 euros. At night it surprised us positively, of course we should always think about the reference range, but even with very little light, the pictures are not bad, we can say that they are above average. Selfies are good too, as always Realme lists a lot of facial optimization options, but by deactivating them you get good stuff.

If images have a positive judgment on the evolution of data processing algorithms, which are updated after update to find more and more accuracy and efficiency, the same cannot be said about videos. They hit FullHD at 60fps, which is really quite a few, and you have to go as low as 30fps for minimal stabilization.

Realme 10 is suggested in memory cut only 8/128 GB at 279 euros listHowever, it was launched in promo Until November 16 at €249.

in general is Smart phone that works fine, has great autonomy and good performance, the software is fun and graphically accurate, the cameras are not the best but they do their job in all lighting conditions. There are better smartphones out there, especially given the non-latest models, but Realme has been confirmed to be very powerful and capable of creating everyday usable products.

Of course, thinking that Realme 9 appeared a few months ago and this Realme 10 adds nothing practical, one wonders if it is really necessary. Here, maybe not.
