BMW i5, new spy photos: The new electric car is closer than ever

The new BMW i5 will hit the market in 2023 and is an electrified version of the futuristic new generation of the 5 Series. This is a very important model for the German automaker’s electrification strategy. Now, two examples of the battery-powered vehicle have been intercepted and new spy photos show some interesting details. As you can see, papers are used, in this case, only to disguise the final shapes of the car. This is a sign that this model is fast approaching its launch time and development is almost over. Looking closely at the sheets on the car windows, you can see that this is a BMW i5 40 copy. On the other hand, the second car in the spy photos shows the rating of camouflaged paint that has already been seen on the cars of the German brand. However, the interesting aspect is that on the exposed sheet we find an indication that it is a BMW i5 M60, and therefore it is the highest and most performing model. At the moment there are no accurate indications yet. However, one can try to assume that the BMW i5 40 could have the same powertrain as the BMW i4 eDrive40. So, if so, the new car could have a single 250 kW (340 hp) electric motor powered by an 83.9 kWh (80.7 kWh usable) battery. For the BMW i5 M60, it is expected to use the same powertrain as the BMW iX M60, albeit with slightly less power. Remember that the most high-performance version of the electric SUV can be based on two engines and a maximum power of 455 kW / 619 hp. If the rumors turn out to be true, we should expect a power close to 600 horsepower. In addition to these two variants featured in the spy photos, it is possible that BMW will show its new i5 in other versions. All that remains is to wait for new information about the debut of the electric sedan, which should arrive at the same time as the new generation of the BMW 5 Series.
